That said, I’ve had the honor of serving as Co-Director of VMS since 2003, and it remains one of the most exceptional organizations I’ve ever worked with.

ABOUT VMS

VMS was founded by Alec Dingee and Professor Dave Staelin—two MIT alumni who recognized that while many technology-based companies spin out of MIT, brilliant technical founders often lack business experience. They believed MIT could do more to support those founders, and they were right.

Today, VMS is widely regarded as the gold standard for entrepreneurial mentoring.

The MIT model has been licensed by over 130 organizations worldwide, each adapting it to support innovation in their own communities.

Trusted by 130+ organizations worldwide. Here’s why.

WHAT MAKES VMS DIFFERENT
  • We don’t pick winners. If your venture qualifies and is ethical, legal, and doesn’t violate the rules of physics, we’ll work with you.
  • We give advice, you do the work.
  • There’s no time limit. Stay in the program as long as it’s helpful.
  • Mentoring happens in teams. Multiple perspectives, different suggestions to choose from.
  • Designed to be objective. Mentors sign NDAs, can’t solicit you, and may not invest in ventures they mentor. Conflicts go to the VMS office for resolution.
